I will occasionally use a song title as a title for a chapter in one of my pieces.
When I do, you will be able to find the whole lyric here.
Can't help myself, I'm an information junkie :)
By the way, don't expect the lyrics to have any relevance to the chapter -
usually it is simply the title that attracts me. Read on, you'll see what I mean!
The title of Part 7 of By Sun and Candlelight" is "Where Do We Go From Here?", a line taken
from a song by David Essex, a cute English 70's rocker...
Rock On - David Essex
Hey kids rock and roll,
Rock on, ooh my soul
Hey kids boogey too, did ya
Hey shout, summertime blues,
Jump up and down in my blue suede shoes
Hey kids rock and roll, rock on
And where do we go from here?
Which is the way that's clear
Still looking for that blue jean, baby queen
Prettiest girl I've ever seen
See her shake on the movie screen, Jimmy Dean
James Dean, rock on
Part 1, Chapter 1 of Brief Conversations is titled "I Could Have Danced All Night" - one of those little hummy
songs that you can't quite remember where it came from. Well, I never can.
My dear, romantic, musically knowledgeable husband tells me it is from "My Fair Lady".
I Could Have Danced All Night - Sylvia Syms/Frank Sinatra
Writer(s): Lerner/Loewe
I could have danced all night,
I could have danced all night
And still have danced some more
I could have spread my wings,
and done a thousand things
I've never done before
I'll never know what made it so exciting
But all at once my heart took flight
I only know that she, began to dance with me
I could have danced, danced, danced, all night
(I *do* think these lyrics are appropriate to the piece!)
The title of Part 2 of Brief Conversations is from a Rolling Stone's song - "Mixed Emotions" -
from where I am writing from, some of the lyrics seem as appropriate as the title!
Mixed Emotions - The Rolling Stones
By Mick Jagger / Keith Richards
Button your lip baby
Button your coat
Let's go out dancing
Go for the throat
Let's bury the hatchet
Wipe out the past
Make love together
Stay on the path
You're not the only one
With mixed emotions
You're not the only ship
Adrift on this ocean
This coming and going
Is driving me nuts
This to-ing and fro-ing
Is hurting my guts
So get off the fence
It's creasing your butt
LIfe is a party
Let's get out and strut
You're not the only one
That's feeling lonesome
You're not the only one
With mixed emotions
You're not the only one
etc etc etc...
The title of this piece of flimflam "Behave Yourself" is from a Beatles' recording - "Bad Boy".
The Beatles recorded this obscure Larry Williams rocker on the same day they completed "Dizzy Miss Lizzy",
May 10, 1965.
Bad Boy - The Beatles
By Larry Williams / Lead vocals John Lennon
A bad little kid moved into my neighborhood
He won't do nothing right just sitting down and looks so good
He don't want to go to school and learn to read and write
Just sits around the house and plays the rock and roll music all night
Well, he put some tacks on teachers chair
Puts chewin' gum in little girl's hair
Hey, junior, behave yourself
Buys every rock and roll book on the magazine stand
Every dime that he get is lost to the jukebox man
Well he worries his teacher till at night she's ready to poop
From rocking and a-rolling spinning in a hula hoop
Well this rock and roll has got to stop
Junior's head is hard as rock
Now, junior, behave yourself
Going tell your mama you better do what she said
Get to the barber shop and get that hair cut off your head
Threw the canary and you fed it to the neighbors cat
You gave the cocker spaniel a bath in mother's laundramat
Well, mama's head has got to stop
Junior's head is hard as rock
Now, junior, behave yourself
"Here Comes the Rain Again. is another "Brief Conversation".
Released November 1983 (ah, no -really?) on the "Touch" album.
Here Comes the Rain Again - The Eurythmics
Annie Lennox / Dave Stewart
Here comes the rain again
Falling on my head like a memory
Falling on my head like a new emotion
I want to walk in the open wind
I want to talk like lovers do
I want to dive into your ocean
Is it raining with you
So baby talk to me
Like lovers do
Walk with me
Like lovers do
Talk to me
Like lovers do
Here comes the rain again
Raining in my head like a tragedy
Tearing me apart like a new emotion
Oooooh
I want to breathe in the open wind
I want to kiss like lovers do
I want to dive into your ocean
Is it raining with you
The title of Part 1, Chapter 2 of Brief Conversations is "Close Your Eyes",
from the Tina Cousins song "Nothing To Fear."
Nothing To Fear - Tina Cousins
from the album "Killing Time"
Come to me and I値l light your darkness
Baby can稚 you see that I can make you shine
so breathe me deep,
and I値l make you conscious
cause I can give you peace
and I can make it right.
So close your eyes, everything will be alright
nothing to fear as long as I知 here
close your eyes now.
Close your eyes and feel me around you
and baby, let me show
that I知 all you need to know
just ease your mind
there痴 nothing to fear now
cause I can give you love
and I can make it grow.
So close your eyes, everything will be alright
nothing to fear as long as I知 here
close your eyes now.
Let me show you love can be beautiful
let me show you love can be wonderful
I know you have a wounded heart
but I can make it heal
and I will never turn away
cause my love is real.
