Gold and Ghosts is a small tribute to Elizabeth Gold. No financial gain is obtained from this web-site.
I originally researched the murder of Elizabeth Gold in 1998 for the 100th anniversary of her death. The information was put together for the Coolgardie Tourist Bureau's "Gold and Ghosts" fundraiser at the old Coolgardie Hospital to aid the Goldfields Exhibition Museum in Coolgardie. Elizabeth failed to join the crowd commemorating her decease.
Copies of the witness statements and other documents relating to the inquest were sourced from the
State Records Office, Perth.
Newspaper articles were obtained from the microfiche archives of the Coolgardie Miner at the
William Grundt Memorial Library, Kalgoorlie.
My thanks to Mary Cotter for providing information on Kenneth Snodgrass' birth details. It was nice to be able to exchange information - I didn't know where or when he was born, and Mary didn't know where, when or how he had died! You can view Kenneth Snodgrass' page at
Ancestry World Tree. If you follow the links through Peter Snodgrass, Kenneth Snodgrass' father, you will find the Clarke connection through Janet Snodgrass. In the years since I opened this site, some information has become available on Elizabeth through ancestry.com.
The graphic used on the front page and sidebar is a portion of an illustration of Coolgardie Hospital in 1894 from Glint of Gold: A story of the goldfields of the West by Malcolm Uren, 1980 edition published by Angus and Robertson Publishers, ISBN 0207140669.
Gold and Ghosts is a nothing-fancy site and is hosted by Lunarpages.
