Series 3 Episode 8 (JTR=2) (a brief summary - longer version to come) As a man slowly enters A&E, he drips blood on the floor, unseen by staff. Robert directs him to the reception desk. Robert finds a memo in his pigeon-hole. After Stuart's ineffectual intubation, Jack has decided that only relevant personnel can perform particular tasks. In the absence of those personnel, a consultant can take on the job. Robert makes little digs at Christine and her knowledge of the memo. He wants to know if Jack didn't take Christine into his confidence. Christine visits Jack in his office. Jack is expecting a visit from Robert. "He's not all cotton wool, is he, I mean - up on his high horse, wielding his trusty sword of righteousness..." In the waiting room, the young man with the dripping blood, Tom Bailey, finally collapses. He has two bullet wounds to his abdomen but only one exit wound. As he is wheeled up to x-ray, Robert informs a police officer about the shooting, supposedly a hunting accident. Jack, Robert and Christine discuss Jack's guidelines in his office. Robert still isn't happy, nor is he pleased when Christine continues to support the policy. The regional crime squad turns up to see if the gunshot victim is half of a pair that carried out a payroll robbery that morning. Robert refuses to let the police see Tom Bailey until after his x-ray and operation. When Tom catches sight of the police, he refuses to allow the operation to proceed. The bullet lodged in his bowel is the only evidence that puts him at the scene of the robbery. Judy's dad, Mr Williams, is wheeled to theatre for the operation to remove a tumour from his brain. On the way he discusses his future travel plans. Mr Williams doesn't survive the operation and his wife Judy for robbing her of a few months with her husband. Sam and Stuart attend to a young man named Elliot. He is a rower and has a bruised and swollen calf. Elliot is also the son of one of St Victor's non-executive trustees. Sam advises Jack of the patient's parentage and Jack decides to consult with Stuart on the case. Blood tests indicate the use of steroids. Tom's brother, Ryan, turns up at the hospital. It is he that Tom is trying to protect. Robert convinces Ryan to speak to his brother and try to talk him into having the operation. Elliot's father turns up at the hospital and speaks to Jack about his son's condition. Jack assists Mr Cannon to cover up his son's use of steroids. Robert tells Jack that he will agree to the memo if the registrars will be allowed to perform procedures. When Jack refuses Robert threatens to resign. Jack agrees to Robert's proposal. Christine asks Jack for a drink after work but he declines, saying he has friends coming for dinner. Robert finally tells Christine that he knows about her and Jack's relationship, Credits: Written by: Danny Miller Produced by: David Boulter Directed by: Delyth Thomas Granada 2001 Robert Kingsford ...
