Episode 14 (JTR=3) (a brief summary - longer version to come)

It's the middle of the night and Jack isn't sleeping well. He gets out of bed and tells Christine he'll cut back on the coffee. Christine insists that something is worrying him and persists in her questioning. Jack confesses that he drove Christine's car to the fundraiser and broke the tail light. Christine thinks there is more, but Jack denies it.

In her office at St Victor's, Christine once again looks at Darren Bracewell's x-ray. Robert arrives and Christine asks him why he is giving up, leaving the hospital. She wants Robert to stay but Robert says he doesn't care what she wants. He then apologises for sounding rude.

A young woman is brought in to A&E. She has been knocked off her bike and is accompanied by Henry Clark, the man who did the knocking.

Mike and Stuart question why Robert is leaving. Mike thinks, aloud, that Robert is 'running scared'.

Christine goes to Jack's office with the x-ray but the door is locked and Jack isn't there. Jack is in ICU watching Darren Bracewell.

Robert goes for a walk and a smoke and finds Tanya Bracewell sitting on a bench.

Christine, x-ray still in hand, finally tracks Jack down to a cafe. Before they can discuss more than coffee, a loud blast outside shatters the windows. A gas explosion next door injures half a dozen people enjoying a card game.

Assisting with the casualties back at St Vic's, Jack tells Christine that 'there is something else' and that he will be in his office when she is free.

Two brothers are injured in the explosion. The girlfriend of one is in love with the other.

Christine finally goes to see Jack. He tells Christine that Darren Bracewell's paralysis is his fault and also confesses to taking the x-ray. Christine accuses Jack of destroying the x-ray but he puts his copy onto the desk. When Christine asks why he is telling her now, jack says the x-ray is the only piece of evidence there is and without it Darren won't receive any compensation. Christine produces the yellow envelope she has been carrying around all day and shows Jack the x-ray.

Christine tries to convince Jack to tell everything to Robert. She thinks Robert will understand as, she says, she can see why Jack did what he did. Jack isn't enthusiastic about it. Jack thinks Robert will simply use it to pull him down. "Tell Robert everything and I'll back you. If you don't tell him, I will," says Christine.

Jack joins Robert and Stuart as they examine an x-ray. Jack asks Robert if he is really leaving. He says Robert will be difficult to replace and asks him to withdraw his resignation.

Jack works on Arnold, another member of the card playing group badly injured in the blast.

Christine finds Robert writing up some notes and asks him if they can talk. In the office Robert studies the x-ray. Robert is angry that Christine hadn't spoken to him first and makes it clear that he thinks Christine gave Jack preferential treatment.

Christine and Sam are outside the emergency entrance. Christine thanks Sam for telling her about the one-night stand with Jack. Sam isn't sure whe did the right thing. In her opinion it didn't make any difference to the way Christine saw Jack, but 'it made you well pissed off with me'.

Jack has finished treating Arnold and is confronted by Robert. Robert asks Jack to tender his resignation as Clinical Director before the day is out and, if Jack refuses, Robert will personally inform every member of staff about Jack's actions concerning Darren Bracewell.
Robert: I'm a doctor, I make people better.
Jack: I paralyse people. I'm human... and as I'm constantly aware, I'm only half the man you are, Robert. But then most of us are.

Later on, Jack meets Christine in the corridor. When Jack says it is the end of everything he has worked for at St Vic's, Christine replies that 'those are the consequences' and adds 'you are on your own now' before walking off.

Jack visits Darren and Tanya Bracewell. "There's something I need to tell you both..."

Jack informs both Robert and Christine that he has offered his resignation as Clinical Director and the Board had accepted it. He has requested that Robert be appointed interim Clinical Director, requiring him to withdraw his resignation.

Leaving the hospital at the end of the day, Christine offers Jack a lift. He refuses, saying he will take a cab and asking Christine to let him know when she wants to pick up her things from his house.
